What is the difference between a demise-charter (sometimes known as a bareboat charter) and a time-charter?

As a basic proposition, the key element of a demise charter is that the charterer must have possession and control of the vessel along with the right to appoint the crew (and Master). Conversely, the time charterer will charter the vessel and crew for either a period of time or for a particular voyage.
